Walvis Bay - Namibia

Skeleton Coast   Khan Valley   Walvis Bay   Sky Diving   Just Chilling   Desert Express

From the dry desert of the Khan River Valley we had a very welcome stop for some soft-serve ice-cream cones before continuing the day. We were driven down the costal road from Swakopmund to Walvis Bay, a really beautiful drive with the ocean on one side and the desert dunes on the other! Walvis Bay has a HUGE lagoon famous for its beautiful flamingos. By the time we got there, late afternoon, the flamingos were starting to settle down for the night and, in celebration it seemed, the fish were jumping right out of the water! After watching this for a while we moved on to the salt pans. These cover huge areas and were all in different stages of evaporation, from still full of water to almost dry and ready to join the salt mountains. After a 9 hour outing we were driven back to our hotel in sensory overload, what a day!!!
