Zambia, Zimbabwe & SA - Elephant Safari

Our next adventure was an elephant safari. We were fetched at 6:30 AM (bleary eyed) and driven to where the elephants live about a half an hour's drive from our hotel. We started off with a cup of coffee and a talk on what to do and how to behave before being introduced to the elephants. They ranged from a brand new baby of just 13 days old to the biggest of all, Bob, who towered above us and the rest of the elephants in the troop, clearly the leader. Annie and I managed to wangle our way onto Bob. He did indeed lead and, when not in front made sure he got back there quickly. The ride lasted about an hour and a half and we saw some buck, baboons and wild elephants. We also stopped on the river bank for a photo shoot, each elephant posing while the main guide took photos of us. The guides were not happy seeing wild elephants as they can cause trouble and so we were really rushed past them. Back at the camp we got to feed the elephants and even sit on their knees as they crouched down to us. It was a really fun experience. After that we got cleaned up and then they gave us a delicious big breakfast.
